Trump claims Iran’s military “wiped out” as he criticises allies’ response
US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran’s military capabilities have been effectively destroyed, while sharply criticising the response of key allies, including the United Kingdom, to the escalating conflict with Iran.
Speaking in remarks reported by the BBC, Trump asserted that US forces had achieved overwhelming success. “We’ve wiped Iran’s military out,” he said, adding that the United States had acted independently. “I didn’t need anybody.”
At the same time, the president expressed dissatisfaction with allied support, singling out the UK government. Keir Starmer has repeatedly maintained that Britain would not be drawn into a broader war, a stance that appears to have frustrated Washington.
When questioned about the need for allied involvement, Trump struck a contradictory tone. While insisting that US operations required no external backing, he suggested that his outreach to partners had been deliberate. “I didn’t need them at all but they should’ve been there. I didn’t need them, obviously,” he said, describing the calls for support as “more of a test” of allies’ willingness to act.
The president also defended his earlier warning that “a whole civilisation will die tonight” if Iran failed to agree to a deal—remarks that drew widespread condemnation, including from Pope Francis and officials at the United Nations.
Despite the backlash, Trump insisted his approach was yielding results. “The other side is dying to make a deal,” he said. “So whatever I’m saying or whatever I’m doing, it seems to be working very well.”
