Trump confirms attendance at G7 summit in France
US President Donald Trump will attend the Group of Seven (G7) leaders’ summit scheduled for June 15–17 in Évian-les-Bains in southeastern France, Axios reports, citing a source.
His participation had previously been uncertain amid reported dissatisfaction from several G7 countries — including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy — which did not support US military actions in Iran.
The source said Trump primarily intends to focus on business-related issues. In particular, he is expected to discuss promoting the adoption of US-developed AI tools, an agreement aimed at reducing China’s influence over critical mineral supply chains, efforts to combat drug trafficking and illegal immigration, as well as the expansion of American exports.
The conflict in Iran continues to strain relations between the United States and most of its key G7 allies and beyond.
Even if a diplomatic agreement is struck between now and mid-June, some rancour might still hang in the air.
No European countries have assisted the US in securing safe passage for commercial vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, although Trump has at times said such support is unnecessary, while several European leaders indicate they would consider involvement only after hostilities conclude.
