Trump: Ending war with Iran will be shared US-Israel decision
US President Donald Trump told The Times of Israel on March 8 that the timing for ending the conflict with Iran would be a “mutual” decision made alongside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In the short phone interview, Trump also claimed that Israel would have been destroyed by the Islamic Republic if he and Netanyahu had not intervened.
“Iran was going to destroy Israel and everything else around it… We’ve worked together. We’ve destroyed a country that wanted to destroy Israel,” he emphasised.
When asked whether he alone would decide when the war with Iran concludes or if Netanyahu would also play a role, Trump said, “I think it’s mutual… a little bit. We’ve been talking. I’ll make a decision at the right time, but everything’s going to be taken into account,” signaling that while Netanyahu would have input, the ultimate decision rests with the US president.
Regarding the possibility of Israel continuing its campaign against Iran after the US ends its strikes, Trump refused to entertain the scenario and added, “I don’t think it’s going to be necessary.”
