Trump signs executive order to launch National Council on Energy Dominance
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order establishing a National Council on Energy Dominance, according to a report from the White House press pool.
“President Trump is now signing two executive orders. One is the creation of an energy dominance council, which will be led by Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and Energy Secretary Chris Wright,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on social media platform X, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
The second executive order addresses the end of mandatory coronavirus vaccinations in American schools.
The National Council on Energy Dominance will focus on managing US energy policy, with responsibilities including the development of energy strategies at the federal level and assisting in the issuance of permits for the production and distribution of oil, gas, electricity, and other energy resources.
“We have more energy resources than any other country, and now we're releasing them,” President Trump stated, according to the press pool.
“We must unlock that potential,” said Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, adding that the resources must be fully utilized “from the Gulf of America to Alaska.”
The creation of the council aligns with Trump’s earlier energy-focused actions, including declaring a national energy emergency on his first day in office. Trump had previously pledged to reduce commodity costs and boost domestic hydrocarbon production while dismissing wind energy as "the most expensive form of energy."
In January, Trump had announced plans to accelerate US energy production, claiming the nation holds more oil and gas reserves than any other country, and indicated that wind energy would be sidelined in favour of fossil fuel development.
In a video address to the World Economic Forum in Davos later that month, Trump emphasized the need to double the nation’s energy production to meet its demands.
