Turkish consul: Azerbaijan’s 2023 earthquake support reflects true brotherhood
Azerbaijan’s prompt assistance following the devastating February 6, 2023 earthquake in Türkiye stands as a powerful symbol of the enduring Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood, Turkish Consul General in Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Asip Kaya told Report.
Kaya noted that the Turkish-Azerbaijani brotherhood today stands as a remarkable example for the entire world.
“Both nations have always supported one another. After the [February 6, 2023] earthquake, Azerbaijan was the first to extend a helping hand. The solidarity shown in Kahramanmaraş remains the clearest reflection of this. Together with official institutions, we are now implementing projects that will contribute to Nakhchivan’s development,” Kaya said, adding that new projects will be announced in the near future.
He also emphasised that the 102nd anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Türkiye was celebrated in Nakhchivan with great enthusiasm.
On February 6, 2023, two powerful earthquakes (7.8 and 7.6 Mw) struck southeastern Türkiye, centred in Kahramanmaraş, killing over 60,000 people, injuring more than 120,000, and displacing 3 million. The disaster affected 11 provinces, including Hatay, Gaziantep, and Adıyaman. Within hours, Azerbaijan dispatched 760 rescue personnel, including specialised urban search-and-rescue teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, to Kahramanmaraş and Hatay.
Azerbaijan also sent 37 aircraft and over 1,000 tons of aid, including medical supplies, tents, generators, and food. The country also rolled out a fully equipped 120-bed mobile hospital in Kahramanmaraş within 48 hours, treating over 5,000 patients in the first month.
