Turkish economist: Zangazur Corridor should open soon
Cemal Zehir, an economist and lecturer at Yildiz Technical University, has said that the Zangazur corridor should open in the near future because the land and railroads are the most economically advantageous.
He recalled Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's words on June 13 during a speech on the Zangazur corridor that "the road is the culture, and if there is no road, there is nothing, " Report informs.
"In fact, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's speech delivered a strong message to the Armenian leadership, urging them not to obstruct this project. Armenia's current position does not benefit itself, Azerbaijan, Türkiye or other countries in the region. Erdogan also sent a message to the world - this way is the way of peace. This is because the Zangazur corridor is one of the main sections of the Great Silk Road, which will span from China to England. The construction of this corridor, which will connect Europe and Asia in the shortest possible time, will also contribute to the economic development of the whole world," he stressed.
The Zangazur corridor is a concept for a transport corridor which, if implemented, would give Azerbaijan unimpeded access to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic via Armenia and, in a broad sense, for the geopolitical corridor that would connect Türkiye to the rest of the Turkic world.
On June 13, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the opening of the Zangezur corridor is inevitable.
“We will continue our efforts in this direction either way. Opening of this corridor will open up new opportunities for all the countries and have a positive impact on regional cooperation,” Aliyev underlined.
