Turkish expert: Armenia intends to hinder return to Azerbaijan's liberated lands
The Armenian government does not provide maps of minefields to complicate Azerbaijan's work and prevent the return of the population to the liberated territories according to Turkish military expert Abdullah Agar.
He noted that demining is a very complicated and long process and emphasized that Armenia should transfer the maps of minefields to Azerbaijan as soon as possible, Report informs.
"Armenia's refusal to provide the maps is a systematic strategy to prevent civil life from sprouting in those areas. Because if there are landmines in any area, it is impossible for civilians to live there. This poses a great threat," he said.
According to the expert, it is also vital to put this issue on the international arena and demonstrate to countries that support Armenia the reality of mine terrorism and map concealment, as well as to seek compensation, since this is a war crime against humanity.
Since November 2020 over 118,000 hectares of the liberated territories have been demined, over 18,000 anti-personnel mines, more than 31,000 anti-tank mines and more than 60,000 unexploded ordnance have been discovered and neutralized. 342 people were blown up by mines, 65 of whom died.
