Turkish intelligence neutralizes PKK/KSK terrorists in northern Iraq
The Turkish National Intelligence Organisation (MİT) has successfully neutralized two members of the PKK/KSK terrorist organization in a targeted operation in northern Iraq.
Turkish security sources revealed that the operation, conducted in the Hakurk region, resulted in the elimination of Zehra Sebat, codenamed “Rojda Azad,” and Serhat Erdogan, both of whom were allegedly preparing an attack on the Turkish Armed Forces, Caliber.Az reports per Turkish media.
Zehra Sebat, who joined the PKK/KSK in 2011, had undergone military training in Iraq and had been active in the region for an extended period. She had most recently been involved with the YJA Star, a women’s unit within the organization, operating in the Hakurk area. Sebat was considered one of the group's prominent members, with a long history of involvement in terrorist activities in northern Iraq.
Serhat Erdogan, a more recent recruit to the terrorist group, joined the PKK/KSK in 2021 and also received military training in the organization's camps in northern Iraq. Erdogan carried out various attacks in regions such as Avashin, Zap, Metina, and Hakurk before becoming part of the special forces structure of the PKK/KSK. His involvement in the group's operations made him a high-priority target for Turkish security forces.
This operation is part of Türkiye's ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist networks operating along its borders and to ensure national security. MİT has consistently targeted PKK/KSK members who pose a threat to Türkiye, using intelligence-based strategies to eliminate key operatives.
The PKK, which is recognized as a terrorist organization by Türkiye, the US, and the EU, has conducted a violent insurgency against Türkiye for over 40 years, resulting in more than 40,000 deaths, including those of women and children.
