Turkish language granted official status in Iraqi province
Turkish has been granted official status in the Saladin Province of Iraq, alongside Arabic and Kurdish.
This decision reflects the growing recognition of the Turkish-speaking community in the region, where Turkmens are the second-largest ethnic group, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Chairman of the Salah al-Din Provincial Council, Adel Al-Sumaidaie, emphasized the importance of this recognition for the Turkmen population.
Former Iraqi MP Fevzi Ekrem Terzi also highlighted that the decision to recognize Turkish is a natural right for the Turkmen people.
The initiative for this development came from Atif Tuzlu, a member of the Salah al-Din Provincial Council. Following his proposal, Turkish will now be used in official documents and administrative proceedings in the province.
