Turkish president pledges to defend Syria's unity, stability amid regime collapse
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has firmly declared that Türkiye will not permit the partition of Syria, emphasizing the country's commitment to suppressing any provocations against Syrians wishing to return to their homeland.
In his remarks, Erdogan outlined Türkiye's position, stating, "We will stand together with the Syrian people against any attack on their freedom, the stability of the new Syrian administration, and the integrity of the ancient Syrian lands with all our political, diplomatic, economic, and military capabilities," Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
President Erdogan further asserted that Türkiye would not remain passive in the face of such threats. He stressed that ensuring peace and security for all in Syria is essential not only for the stability of the region but also to safeguard Türkiye’s own national security.
After anti-regime forces took control of Damascus on December 8, Assad and his family fled to Russia, marking the collapse of the Baath Party regime, which had ruled Syria since 1963.
