Türkiye marks Children’s Day with symbolic transfer of ministerial duties to student PHOTO
Turkish Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin received schoolchildren on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of the opening of the Grand National Assembly and National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, marked on April 23.
After ceremonies at Anıtkabir, Tekin returned to the ministry, where he was greeted by children carrying Turkish flags and a school orchestra, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
As part of a symbolic tradition, the minister temporarily handed over his authority to an 11-year-old girl and delegated some responsibilities to ministry staff.
In his remarks, Tekin highlighted the significance of the holiday for educating the younger generation and emphasised state efforts to strengthen national unity and values.
He also expressed condolences over recent attacks on schools in various regions of the country.
Students, symbolically acting as ministers, said education reforms are aimed at raising a more responsible generation.
They also expressed support for restrictions on mobile phone use in schools, noting their impact on student communication.
