Türkiye receives first EU Council invite in five years
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is set to travel to Brussels to participate in an informal meeting of the Council of the European Union.
This marks the first time in five years that Türkiye has received such an invitation from the EU, highlighting a renewed focus on diplomatic engagement between Türkiye and the European Union, Caliber.Az reports referring to Turkish media.
The invitation was confirmed by Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Oncu Keceli, who welcomed the move as a sign of the EU's recognition of the importance of strengthening relations with Türkiye.
Keceli emphasized that this invitation signifies the EU's understanding of the need for ongoing and systematic dialogue to address regional and global challenges effectively. “We view this invitation positively,” Keceli noted. “It underscores the need for continuous and predictable cooperation between our countries.”
The informal EU Council meeting will be held on August 29-30, bringing together foreign and defence ministers from EU member states. The agenda is expected to cover a broad range of issues, including regional security and defence cooperation.
