The Turkish company Fergani Space, founded by Selçuk Bayraktar, has successfully launched its first satellite, FGN-100-d1, into orbit.
According to Bayraktar, the company plans to launch an additional 100 satellites within the next five years as part of the development of its own global positioning system, named Uluğ Bey, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish defence portal.

He also mentioned that work is underway on orbital transport vehicles to enable independent space missions.
“We intend to create a global positioning system called Uluğ Bey within the next five years, consisting of 100 satellites, entirely funded by our own resources. At the same time, we will continue the development of a launch vehicle capable of lifting 1.5 tonnes of cargo into orbit,” said Selçuk Bayraktar.
The system is named after Uluğ Bey, the 15th-century Emir of the Timurid Empire and a renowned scientist who made significant contributions to the study of stars and celestial bodies. Under his rule, Samarkand became a major centre of science and culture.
