Türkiye sends 25 tons of humanitarian relief to quake-hit Afghanistan PHOTO
The Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of Türkiye (AFAD) has delivered around 25 tons of humanitarian aid for those affected by the earthquake in Afghanistan, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
Following the devastating 6-magnitude earthquake that struck Kunar Province in eastern Afghanistan on the night of August 31, the country’s authorities appealed to Türkiye for assistance.
Türkiye responded to this call. In coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, AFAD, and the Turkish Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian shipment was prepared. A Turkish Air Force A400M aircraft carrying the aid departed from Erkilet Air Base in Kayseri and delivered the cargo to the city of Jalalabad.
According to local authorities, 1,141 people were killed and around 3,000 injured as a result of the earthquake.
Seyfettin Karabulut, head of AFAD’s International Humanitarian Aid Department, noted that thanks to coordination between the Presidency, Foreign Ministry, Interior Ministry, and Defence Ministry, the aid was promptly sent to Afghanistan.
“About 25 tons of humanitarian supplies — tents, food, and hygiene kits — have been handed over to the Afghan Red Crescent Society. They will then be distributed to those in need jointly by the Turkish and Afghan Red Crescent. AFAD will continue its humanitarian mission — for our people within the country and for humanity beyond its borders,” Karabulut stressed.
