Türkiye to discuss anti-terror operations with Russia, Syira, Iran in May
Ankara intends to use the upcoming talks between the foreign ministers of Russia, Syria, Türkiye and Iran, scheduled for May, to raise the issue of fighting terrorism on Syrian territory.
The issue is mainly related to the PKK/YPG terrorist groups near the Turkish-Syrian border, according to Aydinlik newspaper.
Türkiye is ready to discuss joint operations with Syrian authorities on this track.
As reported, Damascus positively evaluates such a proposal but demands guarantees that Turkish forces will subsequently leave the country.
"It is also important for Russia and Iran to remove the US from the region. However, Russia wants the Idlib problem to be resolved for ensuring its security in the eastern Mediterranean as part of the neighbourhood doctrine. Therefore, the roadmap for fighting terrorism will become clearer at the upcoming meetings," the text notes.
The newspaper stressed that in addition to terrorism-related issues, the meeting could discuss the return of refugees, humanitarian issues as well as the political process in Syria, where Damascus and Ankara have different views.
