PM: New Armenia-Azerbaijan-US pact promises strategic benefits for Russia, Iran
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has highlighted the wider regional and international significance of a declaration signed by Azerbaijan, Armenia and the U.S. in Washington, saying it benefits not only signatories but also neighbouring countries.
Speaking to Fox News, Pashinyan said the agreement, reached on August 8, could provide tangible benefits for both Iran and Russia.
He pointed out that it could open a rail route for Iran from the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea, while also creating a direct railway connection between Russia and Iran.
“Implementation of the agreement will bring economic advantages not only for Armenia, Azerbaijan and the US, but also for Türkiye, Russia and Iran,” Pashinyan said.
The Armenian leader emphasised the unprecedented nature of such a railway link in the South Caucasus, where currently no rail connection exists between Iran and Russia.
Pashinyan also underscored the potential of the agreement to enhance international stability and security. “I believe this is a very important agreement that can deliver significant benefits to all countries, and indeed to the international community as a whole,” he said.
He referenced Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” project, expressing hope that the declaration would become a platform for regional cooperation and peace.
Pashinyan stressed Armenia’s commitment to avoiding escalation and fostering sustainable political and economic cooperation.
“Our goal is to ensure stability, peace, sustainable development and cooperation. I think yesterday’s declaration is a very important and very convenient platform for this,” he concluded.
