Türkiye to open field hospitals for wounded Gazans
Türkiye will deploy two field hospitals to help the wounded people from the Gaza Strip.
The representative of the Turkish Ministry of Health, Selami Kilic, told Anadolu.
Turkish specialists will visit the Rafah checkpoint area on the Egyptian border and Gaza to determine the territory where hospitals can be located, he said.
“We will also conduct monitoring at the hospital under the Egyptian Ministry of Health, 10 kilometers from the Rafah checkpoint, which is currently not actively functioning. We plan to place our second field hospital there,” he said.
Two shipments of aid arrived in Gaza over the weekend – the first since Israel started bombing the Palestinian enclave in the wake of a deadly Hamas attack on October 7. The besieged enclave, home to 2.3 million people, has been in dire need of humanitarian aid after Israel cut off food, fuel and electricity supplies before launching a bombing campaign.
At least eight planes carrying aid from Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan and Tunisia have landed at El Arish International Airport in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.
India has sent medical and disaster relief to El Arish on Sunday. Rwanda has sent 16 tons of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The European Union is launching an air bridge and has tripled its assistance to the territory.
However, some EU countries – including Germany, Denmark and Sweden – have temporarily suspended their aid to Gaza as a response to the Hamas attacks.
The first convoy of 20 trucks crossed from Egypt into Gaza on Saturday, and the second convoy arrived the day after.
