President Erdoğan pledges constitutional reform to empower Türkiye’s youth PHOTO

20 May 2025 10:51

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has pledged that Türkiye will adopt a new constitution, declaring it a necessary step for the nation’s continued progress.

His remarks came during a meeting with young people and athletes at the Presidential Library in Ankara, held as part of the celebrations for May 19 — the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, Caliber.Az reports, citing Türkiye Gazetesi.

Erdoğan addressed the youth with optimism about the country's trajectory, stating, “Türkiye is marching from success to success.”

He also voiced his belief that the nation will be passed on to future generations completely free of terrorism. “We will hand over to you a Türkiye where there is no trace of terrorism left. After that, the Century of Türkiye will be achieved even faster,” he said.

The president emphasised that peace now prevails in regions once troubled by unrest and thanked all who contributed to ensuring national security.

Turning to the subject of constitutional reform, Erdoğan stressed that the current legal framework, which he referred to as a "pre-coup" constitution, is no longer fit for purpose. “We cannot move forward with a constitution written 20 years ago,” he stated. “We will prepare a new constitution — together with you, the youth — one that meets the needs of the era and your generation,” Erdoğan declared.
