Kremlin confirms ongoing phone talks between Russian, US presidents

The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin is currently engaged in a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, verified the call in an exchange with VGTRK journalist Pavel Zarubin, confirming that the two leaders are speaking at this moment, Caliber.Az reports.

"Dmitry Peskov just now on my question whether at this moment there is a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump, confirmed that the conversation is going on," Zarubin wrote in his Telegram channel.

The news of the ongoing conversation was initially reported by Reuters, citing an official source within the White House, and later corroborated by The Associated Press (AP).

Neither Trump nor Putin attended the May 15–16 negotiations in person in Istanbul. Instead, the Russian leader sent a delegation of lower-level aides even after Zelenskyy invited him to meet face-to-face at the negotiating table.

Details of the conversation have yet to be disclosed, but the development signals an important moment in diplomatic relations between the United States and Russia, particularly as both leaders have previously discussed key issues like global security, trade, and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
