Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has proposed that Tashkent host the World Youth Climate Forum in 2027.
According to the presidential press service, the initiative was announced during the Regional Ecological Summit in Astana, Caliber.Az reports.
Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of environmental education and the active involvement of young people in the global climate agenda, highlighting the work of the Youth Advisory Committee on Ecology established within COP29 in Baku.
He also outlined Uzbekistan’s progress in environmental sustainability, noting that the country saves approximately 10 billion cubic metres of water annually. He added that the share of “green” energy has reached 30 percent and could exceed 50 percent by the end of the decade.
According to Mirziyoyev, greenhouse gas emissions have already been reduced by 35 percent, with a target of a 50 percent reduction by 2035.
Among other initiatives, he pointed to the development of waste recycling facilities capable of processing up to 5.5 million tons of waste per year and generating 2.2 billion kWh of electricity. He also proposed regional projects, including the “Clean Air of Central Asia” initiative and a “Green Trade Corridor.”
