Anti-drone defences introduced across Russia’s naval forces
Russia’s Navy has established specialised anti-drone units tasked with protecting naval infrastructure from sabotage and unmanned aerial attacks, according to a report by Izvestia, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The newly formed units are equipped with a range of weapons and systems designed to counter aerial and ground-based threats, including “portable anti-aircraft missile systems, machine guns, smoothbore weapons and electronic warfare systems.”
Military expert Alexey Leonkov said the creation of such units reflects changing battlefield realities.
“The emergence of such structures is dictated by the times. Since the beginning of the special military operation, no one assumed that such a need would arise,” he said.
Alexander Perendzhiev emphasised that effective protection against drones and sabotage groups requires a layered approach, including both mobile and stationary defence posts.
