Two-day humanitarian demining conference kicks off in Zangilan
The Third International Mine Action Conference "Reducing the Environmental Impact of Mines - Mobilising Resources for a Safe and Green Future" opened in Zangilan on May 30.
The first day of the two-day international humanitarian conference will be held in Zangilan and the second in Baku, according to Report.
The event aims to inform the world community about the mine problem in Azerbaijan, strengthen international partnership in the field of humanitarian demining, and mobilise financial resources to reduce the environmental impact of contamination by mines and other munitions.
More than 300 delegates from 75 countries are taking part in the conference. Among them are top officials from a number of countries, senior staff of the UN Head Office, representatives of reputable international organisations and officials of demining centres of various countries, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in our country, including the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Michalko, Assistant Secretary-General, Assistant Administrator and Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ivana Zivkovic and others.
