UAE to supply South Korea with over 6 million barrels of crude oil
South Korea is set to receive over 6 million barrels of crude oil from the United Arab Emirates, Cheong Wa Dae announced, as concerns rise over energy prices amid escalating Middle East tensions.
Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff, stated in a briefing that the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and Tehran’s subsequent retaliatory actions in the region have raised fears of an energy crisis, Caliber.Az reports via South Korean media.
"At the instructions of President Lee Jae Myung, we have made consultations over measures to introduce crude oil, and as a result, an emergency introduction of more than 6 million barrels has been confirmed," he said, noting that the step is expected to stabilise oil prices.
Kang also mentioned that a passenger flight carrying South Korean nationals has departed from Dubai and is scheduled to land at Incheon International Airport, just west of Seoul, on the night of March 6, after discussions with the UAE regarding their safe return.
He added that talks with the UAE will continue to arrange a chartered flight to bring back South Koreans still stranded in the country.
