Azerbaijan annually celebrates the state holiday, the Day of Restoration of Independence, on October 18. On this day in 1991, the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan adopted a Constitutional Act on the Declaration of Independence of Azerbaijan. The declaration was confirmed by a referendum in December 1991.
Until 2021, it was marked as Independence Day. But after Azerbaijan liberated its territories from decades-long Armenian occupation, the holiday was renamed and became the Day of Restoration of Independence.
On October 18, 2021, for the first time since 1991, the people of Azerbaijan celebrate this holiday in a completely different way, as a victorious nation that has restored its territorial integrity.
