09 August 2025 11:20

The historic Washington meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, overseen by US President Donald Trump, captured widespread attention across global media.

Leading British outlets such as Sky News, BBC News, and Reuters highlighted the significance of the joint declaration signed during the White House talks, underscoring its role in paving the way for lasting peace in the region, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

The BBC reported that President Aliyev described the day as “historic,” while Prime Minister Pashinyan called the agreement the start of a new chapter in Armenian-Azerbaijani relations. US President Trump announced at the ceremony that both nations had committed to a permanent cessation of military hostilities, alongside a pledge to respect each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

German media also gave extensive coverage to the summit and the breakthrough agreement. Influential outlets, including Spiegel, Die Zeit, Handelsblatt, Berliner Zeitung, Tagesspiegel, Deutsche Welle, Die Welt, and Tagesschau, emphasised the trilateral signing ceremony, portraying it as a landmark moment that ended decades of conflict and opened doors for regional cooperation.

Reports highlighted the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) initiative, an agreement enabling unhindered connectivity between Azerbaijan’s main territory and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Both Azerbaijan and Armenia jointly declared the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group, affirming their shared commitment to peace, stability, and prosperity based on mutual respect for territorial sovereignty.

In addition, media noted new bilateral agreements between the US and both nations, including significant contracts signed between Azerbaijan and US energy giant ExxonMobil alongside the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul was quoted as welcoming the breakthrough, describing the agreement as a pivotal step forward that opens a new page in the history of Azerbaijani-Armenian relations.

Overall, international media framed the Washington meeting as a crucial milestone with the potential to reshape regional dynamics and foster long-term peace and cooperation in the South Caucasus.
