Hikmet Hajiyev: "Azerbaijani president won the war, now he wins peace"
Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev has emphasised that President İlham Aliyev has moved beyond military victory and is now focused on securing lasting peace for Azerbaijan.
“President İlham Aliyev Won the War — Now He Wins the Peace!!!” Hajiyev wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.
This message comes as President Aliyev arrived in Washington, D.C., on August 7 ahead of a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan scheduled for August 8 at the White House.
The meeting is expected to produce a key agreement marking the beginning of a formal peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Azerbaijan had set two main conditions for signing the peace deal with Armenia: a joint appeal to the OSCE to dissolve the Minsk Group, and constitutional amendments in Armenia to remove territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
The Joint Declaration to be signed will confirm that both countries will submit a joint request to the OSCE Secretary-General to dissolve the Minsk Group. It will also acknowledge the need for further steps to sign and ratify an agreement establishing interstate relations and peace following the finalisation of the text.
