UK and France are battling for the Zangazur corridor An Armenian analyts's assessment

Due to the ancient French-British rivalry, France wants to retaliate against Britain by hindering Azerbaijani energy to be supplied to Europe. France won't rest until it grabs some sort of treasure away from Azerbaijan. Russia is also acting according to its own interests, which is natural, but it has found itself in a phase of defeat. 

As Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media outlets, the political analyst Stepan Danielyan made these remarks on his Facebook page. 

His post reads, "British Petroleum [BP] has invested about $80 billion in Azerbaijan, not counting tens of billion into other sectors of Azerbaijan. I should also mention the tens of billions of dollars of British investments, including in the energy sector and for that Britain needs the ‘Syunik’ [Zangazur] corridor to connect the economies of the Turkic world and transport energy by avoiding Russian and Iranian territory.

Let's also take into account that after the 2020 war, in November, an additional investment of $18 billion was made into Türkiye, as well as $100 million into its military sector.

This is just one of the geopolitical reasons for the war. Let’s leave the other aspects for later.

Now let's talk about France. French ‘Total’ invested only $1 billion in Azerbaijan, and counting that into other spheres only $3 billion, while Azerbaijan’s investments into France are about $6 billion. ‘Total’ also invested $4.8 billion into Iran and after Trump's withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear deal, France considers itself the victim.

The centuries-old French-English rivalry intensified especially after Britain left the EU, and now France wants to retaliate against Britain by hindering Azerbaijani energy to be supplied to Europe. This is why the French Senate got busy. Until France doesn’t grab a treasure away from Azerbaijan, it won't rest. Russia similarly moves according to its own interests, which is natural, but it is now finding itself in the phase of defeat.
