Ukraine arrests alleged Russian spy directing Sloviansk strikes PHOTO
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has detained a suspected Russian intelligence operative in Donetsk, accused of directing attacks on the city of Sloviansk.
The suspect, a 51-year-old heating plant worker, is reported to have been recruited by Russia’s FSB, Caliber.Az reports, citing SBU.
The man collected detailed information on Ukrainian military positions, including troop numbers, weapon types, and the function of nearby buildings. He reportedly mapped geolocations and recorded the impact of Russian strikes, which used precision-guided bombs and attack drones.

The intelligence gathered was allegedly sent to his Russian handlers via mobile phone as “agent reports”. Investigators also found a hidden shelter the man had prepared in case of combat operations in Sloviansk. Two mobile phones used for communications with Russian services were seized during the arrest.
The suspect had previously drawn attention from Russian operatives through posts in pro-Kremlin Telegram channels, expressing anticipation of a full occupation of the region.
He has been charged with treason under martial law. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property. The SBU said the operation was carried out with measures to protect the Ukrainian Defence Forces’ positions.
