Ukraine intercepts majority of drones and missiles in overnight Russian assault
During the night of February 6 and into the morning hours, Russian forces carried out a large-scale assault on Ukraine using 328 attack drones, including Shahed, Gerbera, and Italmas types.
In addition to the drone strikes, Russia launched two Kinzhal air-launched ballistic missiles and five Kh-59/69 guided air-to-surface missiles. Approximately 200 of the drones involved in the attack were Shahed models.
Ukraine’s Armed Forces reported that multiple components of the country’s air defence system were engaged in repelling the assault. These included combat aircraft, anti-aircraft missile units, electronic warfare divisions, and mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces operating across northern, southern, eastern, and central regions of Ukraine.
By 12:30 p.m., Ukrainian air defence units had shot down or electronically suppressed a total of 297 unmanned aerial vehicles. Due to the active defensive measures, most of the missiles launched by Russian forces did not reach their intended targets.
Nevertheless, impacts from 22 strike drones were recorded at 14 different locations, while debris from intercepted drones fell at two additional sites.
