Ukraine launches UAV attack on Zaporizhzhia NPP Despite declared ceasefire
A Ukrainian UAV struck the territory of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), despite a declared ceasefire on June 5.
The head of “Rosatom,” Alexey Likhachev, told journalists that a “silence regime” had been introduced from 06:00 local time in the area surrounding the plant to allow repairs on the Dnipro power transmission line, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“At 13:15, a UAV strike was carried out between the 20th and 21st pylons. The strike was precise,” he said on the sidelines of the St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) had earlier reported that a local ceasefire in the ZNPP area had come into force to facilitate repair work.
Later, it was reported that five Russian servicemen were injured after an explosive device was dropped from a Ukrainian UAV targeting a Russian Ministry of Defence demining team near a transmission line pylon at the Zaporizhzhia NPP. The incident occurred during the ceasefire introduced for repair work on the line.
