Ukraine signals possible resignation of interior minister after Kyiv shooting
Ukrainian MP Oleksiy Goncharenko has stated that Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko could resign following a shooting in Kyiv that left six people dead, he said in an interview with the Ukrainian YouTube channel.
“Regarding Klymenko, this is a very high-profile case; in such situations, the question of possible resignation always arises. In my view, we must hear and understand in detail what happened, and this should not be dragged out for months so that everything is forgotten... I fully admit that the question of further resignations, including Klymenko’s resignation, can be raised — this is absolutely possible,” Goncharenko said.
He stressed that the incident is “a very serious case” and that the authorities must provide a full explanation in the shortest possible time. According to him, the issue of dismissals, including a possible resignation of Klymenko, remains “entirely possible.”
The incident occurred on April 18 in Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, where an armed man shot several people dead and then took hostages in a supermarket. During a police assault, the attacker was killed, but he had already killed another person. In total, 14 people were injured, one of whom later died in hospital.
The Prosecutor General’s Office classified the incident as a terrorist attack. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has indicated that personnel changes may follow.
