On the night of August 30, 2025, Ukrainian defence forces carried out strikes on two major Russian oil refineries, Krasnodar and Syzran, aiming to disrupt fuel supplies for Russian military units.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Telegram, Ukrainian units targeted the facilities as part of efforts to reduce the enemy’s offensive potential.
The statement noted, “As part of efforts to reduce the enemy's offensive potential and complicate fuel supplies to the occupiers' military units, units of the Armed Forces' Unmanned Systems Forces and Special Operations Forces struck the Krasnodar oil refinery (Krasnodar Krai, Russian Federation).”
The Krasnodar refinery produces about 3 million tons of light petroleum products annually, including gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel. It is heavily involved in supplying the Russian Armed Forces. The Ukrainian General Staff reported numerous explosions and a fire at the site following the strike.
In addition, Ukrainian forces repeatedly targeted the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, and bitumen, with a processing capacity of 8.5 million tons per year as of August 2025.
