Ukrainian FM appeals out of bomb shelter to EU for more weapons, anti-Iran sanctions
Ukraine has asked the EU for stronger air defence systems as well as sanctions against Iran.
The statement came from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba on October 17, RBC-Ukraine reports.
“I am perhaps the first foreign minister who is addressing the EU Council of foreign ministers out of a bomb shelter due to the ongoing air raid sirens”, Kuleba regrettably stated.
He asked for more air defence systems and ammunition for Ukraine, as well as sanctions against Iran for supplying military drones to Russia.
The minister added, “the ninth package of EU sanctions against Russia has to be powerful”.
Russian forces launched an attack on Kyiv on October 17 with the use of Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, sold by Iran. One of the drones landed in a residential building, killing three people and injuring four others, while 19 people were recovered from beneath the rubble.
Nasser Kanani, a representative of Iran’s Foreign Ministry stated that Teheran had not provided Moscow with military drones, adding that “the published news carry a political agenda and are being shared by western sources”.
Meanwhile, EU foreign ministers are calling for new sanctions to be imposed on Iran if their involvement in the offences against Ukraine should be proven.
As Caliber.Az reported earlier, EU sanctions against Iran have been introduced on October 17 in response to the violent protest crackdowns.
