Ukrainian forces attack strategic oil and gas infrastructure in southern Russia
On the night of October 9, Ukrainian Defence Forces carried out strikes on strategic energy infrastructure in Russia’s Volgograd Region, targeting the Korobkovsky Gas Processing Plant and the Efimovka line-production dispatching station.
General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) reported on the attack on its Telegram account, as per Caliber.Az.
The Korobkovsky Gas Processing Plant, located in the town of Kotovo, is one of southern Russia’s largest facilities for the primary processing of natural and associated petroleum gas. The plant has an annual design capacity of 450 million cubic meters of natural and associated gas and 186,000 tons of broad fraction light hydrocarbons.
The Efimovka line-production dispatching station (LPDS) handles several major trunk pipelines used for transporting oil and petroleum products across the region, with a total throughput capacity of 50 million tons per year.
According to preliminary reports, explosions and fires occurred at both facilities following the strikes. The full extent of the damage and potential casualties is still being assessed.
“The Ukrainian Defence Forces are consistently implementing measures aimed at undermining the military and economic potential of the Russian Federation in order to stop its armed aggression against Ukraine,” the AFU General Staff said in a statement.
