Ukrainian president, US VP postpone meeting due to finalization of partnership memorandum
A scheduled meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US Vice President JD Vance at the Munich Security Conference on February 14 has been postponed.
Sources within the Ukrainian delegation said that the rescheduling was due to the need for Ukraine to finalize the draft memorandum of partnership and submit it to the US side, Caliber.Az reports per Ukrainian media.
The decision follows an agreement between Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump on February 12, whereby Ukraine was tasked with completing the memorandum before handing it over to the Americans.
Once the document was provided to the US, the American side requested additional time to review it until 17:00.
The memorandum, which focuses on investment in Ukraine's mineral resources, is part of broader discussions about economic partnership and security guarantees. On February 13, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent arrived in Kyiv to continue talks on the economic aspects of this partnership.
At the time, Zelenskyy revealed that the US had shared the first draft of an agreement to invest in Ukraine’s mineral resources, with the expectation of continued US aid in return.
Keith Kellogg, Trump's special envoy for Russia and Ukraine, has indicated that access to Ukraine's mineral resources is viewed as a crucial component of the country’s security framework.
The timing of the rescheduled meeting between Zelenskyy and Vance has not yet been announced.
