UN-HABITAT employee: Azerbaijani IDPs really want to return to their lands
Azerbaijani former IDPs really want to return to their lands.
An employee of the United Nations Program for the Promotion of Sustainable Development of Human Settlements (UN-HABITAT) for Iraq Anna Soave told Report.
According to her, the process of rebuilding infrastructure at the post-conflict stage in Iraq and Azerbaijan is very different: “The main difference is that in Iraq we were restoring territories that were partially inhabited by people. Many houses were destroyed, but people still had documents for their plots of land and they wanted to return to these territories. In general, people in Azerbaijan are very eager to return to their lands, and I was very happy to hear about the program for their return.”
Anna Soave noted that establishing an exchange of experience on the restoration of infrastructure at the post-conflict stage between countries that survived the war would be useful.
