US armored vehicles may be equipped with laser warning systems
Bradley and Stryker armored personnel carriers and Abrams tanks may receive laser warning systems.
The laser warning system is used as a passive military defenсe. It detects, analyzes, and localizes laser directions from laser guidance systems and laser rangefinders. It then warns the crew and can launch countermeasures, such as an aerosol or smoke screen.
"According to budget documents, the procurement of laser warning systems for armored vehicles will take place in the second quarter of 2023. Integration of the basic kit on the vehicles should occur during 2024," Defense News reports.
It is noted that the US military has been developing an active tank protection system for Stryker armored vehicles since 2016 but to no avail. The work was suspended, but events in Ukraine sparked renewed interest in this system.
It is reported that now the APS Trophy active tank protection system made by the Israeli company Rafael is installed only on Abrams tanks, but it was planned to equip Bradley and Stryker armored vehicles. The Iron Curtain system was also offered for these vehicles, but it was not suitable, as it "eliminates threats very close to the vehicle, making soldiers walking next to it outside vulnerable".
