US, China address key issues, set up future Biden-Xi call
US Assistant to the President for National Security Jake Sullivan and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed at a meeting plans to hold a telephone conversation between US leader Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming weeks, according to a press statement by White House.
“The parties held a frank, informative and constructive discussion on a number of bilateral, regional and global issues,” the statement reads, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
In particular, they discussed the fight against drug proliferation, contacts between the militaries of the two countries, as well as risks in the field of artificial intelligence.
“The two sides welcomed efforts to keep communication channels open, including plans for a leaders-level phone call in the coming weeks,” the statement said.
Sullivan's visit to the PRC will last from 27 to 29 August. It is the first trip by a US presidential national security aide to China after an eight-year hiatus. In addition, Sullivan is visiting the PRC for the first time in his position.
