US clarifies position: No policy of regime change in Iran
The United States does not pursue a policy aimed at changing the government in Iran, Jake Sullivan, the national security advisor to the US President, said during a speech at the National Defense University in Washington.
“Our position is straightforward: the future of Iran should be determined by its people,” Sullivan stated, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
He emphasized that the US has not achieved significant progress in implementing regime change policies in other countries, making it an unlikely goal for the US in Iran.
Sullivan further underscored the importance of developing strategies to counter Tehran's malign activities in the region. He highlighted the US commitment to human rights and the principle that the people of Iran should shape their own future based on shared rights and values.
A spokesperson for Iran's Foreign Ministry, Nasser Kanaani, earlier stated that the US policy toward Iran is fundamentally hostile. He emphasized that for any meaningful improvement in bilateral relations, Washington needs to abandon its aggressive stance. As a result, Tehran is not overly concerned about the outcome of the upcoming US presidential election in November.
