US deploying F-22s to Middle East as Iran seeks revenge on Israel
The United States has decided to deploy a squadron of low-observable F-22 Raptor fighters to the Middle East due to the threat of an Iranian strike on Israel.
This decision comes in response to heightened tensions following the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign sources.
In addition to the deployment of the advanced F-22 fighters, the Pentagon is sending more cruisers and destroyers to the region, equipped to repel ballistic missile attacks. The Department of Defense is also considering bolstering surface-to-air missile capabilities to enhance regional defence measures.
“The Department of Defense continues to take steps to mitigate the possibility of regional escalation by Iran or Iran’s partners and proxies,” Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated on August 2. “To that end, Secretary Austin has ordered adjustments to U.S. military posture designed to improve U.S. force protection, to increase support for the defence of Israel, and to ensure the United States is prepared to respond to various contingencies.”
Singh emphasized that the deployment of the additional fighter squadron aims to provide increased “defensive air support capability.” While the statement did not specify the type of fighters being sent, it confirmed that these adjustments are part of a broader strategy to deter potential Iranian aggression and strengthen US forces in the Middle East.
