US journalist Tucker Carlson says CIA investigating him over Iran contacts
American journalist Tucker Carlson has claimed that the CIA has launched a review of his activities and is considering the possibility of pressing criminal charges.
In a video posted on YouTube, Carlson said the probe stems from his contacts with Iranian officials before the current military conflict, as well as his critical stance toward Israel. He noted that the investigation could involve potential violations of the U.S. Foreign Agents Registration Act.
“I am not an agent of a foreign power. I have only one loyalty, and that's the United States, and have never acted against it,” Carlson said.
He suggested that the real aim of the investigation is intimidation and discrediting. Carlson recalled facing similar pressure in 2021 when he attempted to interview Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The journalist also claimed that U.S. intelligence agencies systematically use criminal cases to justify surveillance of citizens deemed inconvenient.
“Countries tend to become more authoritarian in wartime. It is just the nature of war. And so there's much less tolerance for any kind of dissent in the homeland,” he emphasised.
