US launches “golden card” citizenship program for wealthy foreigners
The United States has introduced a program offering “golden cards” to wealthy foreigners seeking citizenship in record time.
President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that there is a direct path to citizenship for all qualified and vetted individuals, describing it as “so exciting,” Caliber.Az reports.
Applicants must pay a $1 million contribution plus a $15,000 non-refundable fee, even if their application is denied.
The program also offers a platinum card version for $5 million, allowing holders to spend up to 270 days in the US without being taxed on income earned abroad.
The initiative comes as the Trump administration has increased resources for deporting millions of immigrants.
In November, Trump pledged to suspend migration from third-world countries, eliminate federal benefits and subsidies for non-citizens, and revoke citizenship from migrants.
Critics and policy experts warn that by basing residency (and potentially citizenship) on wealth alone, the program may carry serious risks: it could attract illicit or laundered money, undermine the original purpose of investor visas (like job creation), and challenge established norms and laws for immigration and taxation.
