Uzbekistan breaks world record for largest team flower planting effort

Uzbekistan's Namangan has entered the Guinness World Records by setting a world record in the category “Largest number of flowers planted collectively within one month.”

The official Guinness certificate was presented to Governor of Namangan region Shavkatjon Abdurazzakov during the opening ceremony of the 65th International Flower Festival. The document was handed over by Guinness World Records representative Sheyda Subashi, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.

According to officials, 100 million flower seedlings were planted across the region last year as part of preparations for the festival, while this year the figure was increased to 150 million, enabling the region to set a new world record.

This year’s festival will last for 50 days. For the first time, all 754 mahallas of the region participated in the preparations. Homes, streets, and public spaces were decorated with flowers, while a “Most Beautifully Landscaped Mahalla” competition was organized among local communities.

The official opening ceremony took place on May 24. A traditional parade of flower-decorated vehicles began at Namangan International Airport and proceeded through the city’s central streets to the Babur Park named after Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur.

The festival is attended by members of the diplomatic corps, foreign companies, investors, cultural figures, tourists, and local residents.

Organizers stated that more than 150 international, national, and regional events are planned as part of the festival, including cultural, sports, and tourism programs.

The main floral displays are located in Babur Park, the “Valley of Legends” thematic park, and the 60-hectare New Uzbekistan Park.

Additional themed events are also being held across the region, including the “Pilaf Festival” in Chust, the “Lavender Festival” in Pap district, and the newly introduced “Patir Festival” in Mingbulak.

According to organizers, the 2026 festival is expected to attract more than one million foreign visitors and around eight million domestic tourists. The festival will continue until July 12.
