Uzbekistan extends Daut-Ata border restrictions with Kazakhstan over security
Uzbekistan has extended restrictions at the Daut-Ata border crossing with Kazakhstan to ensure the safety of individuals and vehicles.
According to the Department of State Revenue for the Mangystau region, the Daut-Ata checkpoint of Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee under the Ministry of Economy and Finance will continue to limit the movement of pedestrians, passenger cars, and buses across the Uzbek-Kazakh state border, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
The restrictions are linked to ongoing reconstruction work at the border crossing.
The Daut-Ata border crossing has been periodically closed or restricted since February 1, 2025, with movement of pedestrians and light vehicles suspended as part of an agreed reconstruction and modernisation project at the checkpoint and surrounding infrastructure.
The suspension covers individuals, passenger cars, buses, and trucks weighing up to 3.5 tons, while heavier trucks are still permitted in some periods, as the closure is aimed at safety and to accelerate major engineering and road works at the border control facilities.
This restriction is part of broader bilateral coordination, with both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan agreeing to extend closures and implement infrastructure upgrades, and alternative routes, such as additional railway links or other border checkpoints, are being recommended to travellers.
