Video shows Khankendi resident of Armenian origin preparing armed attack

Footage has emerged showing a resident of Khankendi of Armenian origin preparing an armed provocation. 

The suspect, identified as Karen Albertovich Avanesyan, born in 1967, was captured on video retrieving an assault rifle and grenades from a hidden cache, according to footage obtained by APA.

Authorities said the suspect’s plans were thwarted thanks to the vigilance of local police. Avanesyan was detained while attempting to approach the site of an event in Khankendi armed with a Kalashnikov rifle, four magazines, and five grenades.

During the arrest, Avanesyan resisted, reportedly throwing three hand grenades and opening fire on police officers. Return fire wounded Avanesyan, who was subsequently taken into custody. One police officer was also injured in the operation.

A criminal case has been launched jointly by the General Prosecutor’s Office and the State Security Service, with ongoing operational and investigative measures. Avanesyan remains under medical supervision.
