VP Vance: Israel may like it or not, US will pursue Iran deal
Washington will continue seeking an agreement with Tehran regardless of Israel’s position on the issue, US Vice President JD Vance stated.
“We can get a long-term settlement to Iran’s nuclear deal. Now, Israel may like that or may not like that, but fundamentally, we think this is in the best interests of the United States of America. So we're going to keep on pursuing it because that’s what the president was elected to do. That’s what we have to do in order to properly serve the American people,” Vance said in an interview with Fox News.
Vance’s comments came against the backdrop of rapidly escalating tensions in the region. On June 7, Iran launched missile attacks on northern Israel in retaliation for Israeli strikes on Lebanon, after previously warning that any attack on Beirut would trigger a response.
Hours later, overnight on June 8, Israel carried out retaliatory airstrikes on military targets in western and central Iran. The strikes reportedly damaged facilities within a petrochemical complex in Khuzestan Province.
Later that morning, Iran responded with a new wave of attacks against Israeli territory, marking another escalation in the ongoing exchange of hostilities between the two sides.
