Waste disposal sites identified in Karabakh, East Zangezur

In a significant development for environmental management in the Azerbaijani liberated territories, 12 locations have been selected for waste disposal sites in Karabakh and East Zangezur, according to Sabit Zayniyev, Deputy Chairman of the Board of “Təmiz Şəhər” OJSC.

Zayniyev highlighted that waste management in these territories has been a priority since their liberation, Caliber.Az reports.

“In the coming days, work on the construction of several landfills will begin. Also, more than 500 containers have been installed in the liberated territories and 60 units of cleaning equipment have been brought in,” Zayniyev said.

The establishment of these waste disposal sites and the introduction of necessary infrastructure mark a critical step towards sustainable development and the restoration of the liberated territories.

Notably, Emin Huseynov, the special representative of the president of Azerbaijan for the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts, said that Azerbaijan has so far invested nearly $10 billion in the reconstruction and development of its Karabakh and East Zangezur regions.

He highlighted that energy efficiency is a key priority in restoring the liberated territories. "New residential and public buildings in these areas will meet the highest standards of green construction. Solar panels, energy-efficient materials, and smart grid systems will be integrated from the ground up. These initiatives align with Azerbaijan's broader commitment to reducing carbon emissions and achieving climate neutrality in accordance with global objectives," the official said.
