Where could Zelenskyy and Putin meet? Ukraine proposes summit venue
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to hold a direct meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Türkiye, signalling Kyiv’s openness to an immediate truce and diplomatic negotiations.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Sybiha praised Ankara’s pivotal role in international diplomacy, noting its previous success in brokering the Black Sea grain corridor and hosting critical diplomatic talks.
"We advocate for Türkiye to become one of the main venues where a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin could take place," Sybiha said, framing a potential leader-level summit as a decisive breakthrough toward ending the war.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasised that the diplomatic window must be utilised immediately. "We have real proposals on how to end this war. Ukraine strives for peace. And we are committed to all peace efforts that are currently ongoing, including those involving the American side. We count on a new role for Europe in these peace efforts. Ukraine is ready for a truce," Sybiha stated.
During their bilateral discussions, Fidan briefed Sybiha on the outcomes of his recent official visit to Moscow. Following the briefing, Sybiha reaffirmed Kyiv's diplomatic stance, concluding: "I reiterated our readiness to hold a meeting between President Zelenskyy and Putin in Türkiye to end the war."
