While opposition rallying, MPs from Pashinyan's party adopt important laws

07 May 2022 12:06

While the opposition forces on the street began to fight for the resignation of the government of Nikol Pashinyan, the current government continues to adopt important laws in parliament, which, due to well-known events, are beyond public scrutiny.

Caliber.Az quotes the Yerevan Zhoghovurd newspaper as saying.

“Thus, yesterday the National Assembly [of Armenia] adopted in the second reading and in full a package of bills on amendments to the Law on Local Self-Government, the authors of which are the MPs of the Civil Contract faction Vahe Galumyan and Vahagn Hovakimyan,” the newspaper wrote.

Section 6 of Article 02 provides for a force majeure situation where, for any reason, the head of the mayor's office of an enlarged community is not elected, in which case the prime minister may appoint an acting mayor until the municipality holds an election.

With the adoption of the bill, in the cases provided for in Section 102 (6) of the Law on Local Self-Government, an acting member of the municipal council may also be appointed as acting head of the municipality. This law was adopted so that a pro-government protégé in Vanadzor could be appointed instead of Mamikon Aslanyan, and until then he will remain in prison,” according to the newspaper.
