World Tourism Organization extends condolences over Azerbaijan Airlines plane crash
Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), has expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane that occurred near Aktau, Kazakhstan.
The flight, traveling from Baku to Grozny, was attempting an emergency landing when it tragically crashed, claiming several lives.
In a message addressed to His Excellency Mr. Ilham Aliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Pololikashvili conveyed his heartfelt condolences on behalf of the UNWTO and himself. The organization extended sympathy to the families of the victims, as well as to those injured in the incident, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Our thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones, those injured and everyone impacted by this tragic event,” Pololikashvili wrote. He also expressed solidarity with the people of Azerbaijan during this incredibly difficult time.
The Secretary-General further wished for the full and speedy recovery of the survivors, reiterating his condolences to all who are mourning the loss. He concluded his message by reaffirming his highest esteem for the Azerbaijani leadership and people.
As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, the international community has rallied in support of Azerbaijan, with messages of sympathy and solidarity pouring in from various global leaders and organizations.
The devastating incident occurred on December 25, when an AZAL passenger plane, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau. Out of the 67 individuals on board, 38 lost their lives, while 29 survived the crash.
